In 2019, Mayor Muriel Bowser established the Mayor’s Commission on Healthcare Systems Transformation. Despite the District of Columbia having world-renowned healthcare resources, there are inequities in how these resources are utilized and accessed by its residents. The commission’s charter focuses on developing recommendations that address these inequities. Six committees were constituted to conduct an in-depth study of these issues and develop recommendations on several key areas of interest including allied health care professionals and workforce development.
In particular, the Committee on Allied Health Care Professionals and Workforce Development was tasked with identifying barriers to meeting the demands of communities throughout the District for locally based allied healthcare professionals and recommendations to reduce the obstacles certain provider types face in trying to serve a community. Following their study of the issues and challenges, among the committee’s recommendations was the conduct of a quality improvement review of the licensure process to address delays in all aspects of clinical licensing and develop and implement process improvement plans to reduce turnaround time.
As subcontractor to The Georgetown Firm, Econometrica assists in conducting a comprehensive quality improvement audit of DC Health’s Health Regulation and Licensing Administration (HRLA)’s operations and performance of HRLA’s Office of Health Professional Licensing Boards (OHPLB). The audit will include recommendations for improvement as well.
