Econometrica to Develop E-Learning Courses Aimed at Global Tobacco Control Topics

TabaccoUseBETHESDA, MD – The CDC Foundation awarded Econometrica a contract to create e-learning courses focused around a variety of global tobacco control topics. This new partnership will strengthen country-level capacity in using data to inform policies on global tobacco prevention and control.

The CDC Foundation is the go-to nonprofit authorized by Congress to mobilize philanthropic partners and private-sector resources to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) critical health protection mission. The new courses will build on the CDC Foundation’s 13 years of work in global tobacco and nicotine surveillance and monitoring. According to the World Health Organization, tobacco use is the leading cause of death, illness, and impoverishment and kills more than 8 million people annually worldwide.

“This is a great opportunity for Econometrica to work with the CDC Foundation on this important international effort to curb tobacco use,” Econometrica President/CEO Cyrus Baghelai said. “We are excited to have our ever-expanding Learning Solutions Team help reduce the number of people and the severity of impact for this worldwide challenge through our analytics, solutions design, quality service and attention to detail.”

“We look forward to working with Econometrica, drawing on their technical and subject matter expertise, instructional design experience, and creative thinking as we collaborate to produce meaningful and interactive adult learning experiences to drive evidence-based tobacco control policies and programs,” said Rachna Chandora, the CDC Foundation’s Associate Vice President for Noninfectious Disease Programs.

Econometrica’s Learning Solutions Team, part of the Health Group, implements a flexible approach to developing learning solutions based on audience size and geographic distribution as well as training objectives and content. The team works to maximize the benefit of investments in training by ensuring that content is deployed in the most effective modality and can achieve the maximum usage possible.

Econometrica has previously created trainings, factsheets, and toolkits for various Federal agencies, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, CDC, and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Econometrica Launches New Course

WashHandsBETHESDA, MD – Econometrica launched a  new course about handwashing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Washing your hands regularly and thoroughly is the best thing, aside from social distancing, that you can do to protect yourself and your community from the spread of COVID-19. Adapted from guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the new course  will focus on when and how you should wash your hands to stay healthy – a simple task, yet often misunderstood and performed poorly.

The new course is available at https://econometricainc.com/training/.

Econometrica Maintains Continued Operations During Coronavirus Pandemic

Econometrica Maintains Continued Operations During Coronavirus Pandemic

COVID 1BETHESDA, MD – On March 13, President Trump declared a national emergency in response to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) nationwide. Econometrica, Inc., continues to monitor developments related to the coronavirus pandemic to ensure the safety of our staff, their families, and communities. We also are taking steps toward meeting our commitments to clients and partners and continue to provide the high-quality and timely services expected from Econometrica.

The following summarizes steps we have taken to date:

  • Econometrica has mandated that all employees work full time from home for the foreseeable future. We are complying with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to halt gatherings of more than 50 people and to encourage social distancing.
  • Employees working remotely have full access, using secure configurations, to Econometrica’s network resources, applications, and support, including communication tools to support telework. No project work will be interrupted by this move to a remote setup.
  • Project teams in our Health, Housing and Community Development, General Services, Capital Markets, and Data Analytics groups are moving toward scheduling all meetings virtually and limiting travel. All business travel is temporarily suspended during this time.
  • Staff members who work onsite at our clients’ offices continue to report to their respective agencies unless directed otherwise. We have been in contact with each client to develop contingency plans to address remote work should access to the client site is limited or an employee shows symptoms of COVID-19.
  • We have regularly communicated prevention strategies and tips from CDC and the American Red Cross for keeping homes and workplaces safe. Everyone has been advised to call their doctors and follow CDC recommendations for self-quarantine should they show any symptoms related to COVID-19.

Coronavirus infections increase at an exponential rate, with symptoms including fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Social distancing seems to be effective in reducing the spread, and Econometrica wants its employees to feel safe and remain healthy. As this outbreak unfolds, Econometrica will continue to provide its high-quality services with no reduction in availability or commitment.

HUD Publishes Guidance Materials About Radon

HUD Publishes Guidance Materials About Radon

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently published fresh guidance related to radon in housing on the HUD Exchange site. Econometrica is working with HUD to develop the guidance to raise awareness about the dangers of radon and strategies to reduce exposure. Radon is an odorless, colorless gas that is a risk factor for lung cancer when it accumulates inside a home. With testing and mitigation, exposure to radon can be reduced to safe levels.

New HUD Reports Explore Recent AHS Data

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released two new reports about the examining data provided by the American Housing Survey (AHS). The reports, prepared by Econometrica and SP Group, take a deep dive into several aspects of the AHS in recent years. The AHS, sponsored by HUD and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, provides information on both the current state of housing inventory and the characteristics of its occupants. Econometrica has provided analytic support on the AHS under several contracts with HUD for nearly two decades.

HUD Releases Updated FMRs; Econometrica Conducted Surveys for Multiple PHAs

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released updated Fair Market Rents (FMRS) for fiscal year 2022 for 12 areas based on new survey data.
The updates, released in the Federal Register on March 10, 2022, come after public housing authorities (PHAs) conducted new surveys. According to HUD, the new FMRs reflect the estimated 40th percentile rent levels. The Econometrica Team, consisting of Econometrica and M. Davis & Company, conducted surveys and data analysis for 6 of the 12 PHAs with updated FMRs. The team utilized its years of housing and community development experience to provide collection and analysis of data to appeal HUD’s previously proposed FMRs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), has awarded the Econometrica Team a second option year on the USDA Foods Trend Analysis project that will run through September 2019. This study examines the types and amounts of food ordered through USDA Foods and USDA U.S. Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (USDA DoD Fresh) under the National School Lunch Program.

During the first option year, the Econometrica Team conducted comprehensive descriptive analyses of the types of products ordered and order patterns through USDA Foods and USDA DoD Fresh at the national and State levels for school years (SYs) 2014–2015, 2015–2016, and 2016–2017. This work involved cleaning and assembling program administrative data, conducting analysis using SAS and Tableau, and producing a report on the findings. We developed infographics on ordering patterns for FNS program marketing and information dissemination purposes. In addition, the team developed an interactive Tableau-based dashboard for FNS and States to use in program monitoring. The dashboard contains detailed information on multiple data points that we analyzed over the course of this contract.

In the second option year, the project is expanding to include two additional years of order data (SYs 2013–2014 and 2017–2018). The project includes new analysis of USDA Foods processor inventory levels over the course of the school year to inform FNS about patterns in processor compliance with program inventory limits. We will also develop new infographics and update the Tableau dashboard with the new data. Congratulations to all on the win!
