The Econometrica Team is supporting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by developing and implementing best practices, training, and other technical assistance resources for public housing authorities (PHAs) and housing inspectors to conduct remote video inspections (RVIs). RVIs provide a cost-efficient and effective alternative to in-person physical inspections that are required by the several HUD programs. RVIs may be used in routine, non-routine, and emergency (e.g., pandemics) situations to assist HUD in carrying out its oversight responsibilities while also reducing costs and limiting exposure of personnel to unsafe conditions in the case of non-routine or emergency situations.
