Remembering the Section 504 Sit-In
Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 are key to protecting the rights of people with disabilities. Combined, they aim to ensure people with disabilities can access any program or activity receiving Federal funds and to eliminate barriers in IT and encourage the development of technology to achieve these goals. April 5 marked the 44th anniversary of the Section 504 sit-ins. The 1977 sit-ins resulted from years of frustration at the slow pace of regulations and marked a turning point in the Nation’s push for regulations protecting the rights of people with disabilities.
Econometrica Will Continue Regulatory Work for BSEE
The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) recently awarded Econometrica a multiple-year contract to provide expert assistance and technical support for the economic analyses associated with BSEE regulatory, research, inspection, and enforcement activities. The results of any work performed will help BSEE, part of the U.S. Department of the Interior, evaluate the economic impact of its regulations for Federal actions designed to increase environmental and safety protection on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).
