Our employees got their hands dirty at a trash cleanup event to support the Anacostia Watershed Society

Several Econometrica employees woke up bright and early on September 22 and headed to the Anacostia Watershed to participate in a volunteer trash cleanup event in support of the Anacostia Watershed Society.

The Anacostia River Watershed is a region that covers 176 square miles of the District of Columbia and Prince George’s County and Montgomery County in Maryland. After centuries of industrialization and pollution, the watershed is rapidly recovering and transforming.

Our volunteers spent the morning filling countless bags of trash and helping to make the river cleaner! This event was part of the Anacostia Watershed Society’s ongoing research and data collection on the types and amounts of trash found in the water, which enables it to receive funding to continue this important work.

The Anacostia Watershed Society was formed in 1989 by a small group of citizens concerned about the environmental needs of the Anacostia River and its surrounding area. Today, the society is an advocacy group that does outreach across the metropolitan area to bring awareness to the impact of pollutants in and around our waterways.
