Econometrica Reflects on 2017 and Gets Ready to Celebrate the New Year

Econometrica’s Year in Review

2017 Year-in-Review Book

Download our 2017 year-in-review book, Innovative Solutions.

This year represented one of change and expansion for Econometrica. Our Regulatory & Economic Analysis Group, formerly called the Transportation Group, continues to work on exciting projects such as one for the U.S. Census Bureau’s Center for Disclosure Avoidance. This software development project focuses on developing and implementing sophisticated disclosure avoidance algorithms that will allow policymakers to understand and disclose the tradeoff between data accuracy and privacy protection. This is the first implementation of the advanced algorithms globally.

The Housing & Community Development Group continues its work on various projects, both on the ground and remotely, to support public housing agencies, cities, and other entities, including our inaugural work for NeighborWorks® America. The group is conducting work initiated in 2010 with the receipt of our first-ever U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Planning and Development Cooperative Agreement, and we have earned several successful awards under this Cooperative Agreement in the years since.

Our Health Group’s current project work crosses the following four main sectors: (1) Qualitative & Survey Research, (2) Learning & Diffusion, (3) Measurement & Improvement, and (4) Data Analytics. The Health Group ended the year on a positive note with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology for our grants management work.

Not everything was positive at Econometrica. In August, we lost a dear colleague and friend, Steve McGonegal. Steve was employed as a senior economist at Econometrica for 8 years and passed away after prolonged illness. We miss his outgoing personality and ability to engage anyone and everyone in conversation. Our thoughts are with his family, and we are deeply saddened by the loss.

We were also saddened by the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey, and we banded together to raise funds in response to this natural disaster. We proudly raised more than $2,600 from employee and corporate contributions to aid the Central Texas Food Bank in their efforts to bring relief to Hurricane Harvey victims.

Looking toward the future, we predict that 2018 will be a banner year! 2018 marks Econometrica’s 20th anniversary, and we will celebrate the occasion each month with a special event. Stay tuned to see what we have planned!

Thank you to all our employees, partners, and clients for all of your hard work and support. We wish you all happy holidays and a most prosperous and joyous Happy New Year!

2017 National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day

2017 National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day

Annually, in conjunction with the winter solstice, the National Coalition for the Homeless, the National Consumer Advisory Board, and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council recognize those who have died homeless in the preceding year. The 2017 National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day will take place on Thursday, December 21.

Econometrica is a technical assistance provider and research organization that delivers professional services to federal, state, and local governments, as well as to nonprofit and quasi-governmental organizations. Throughout the years, we have supported research inquiries[1][2][3][4] that included homelessness as a topic, and we have provided referrals to specific homelessness-related technical assistance to some of the grantees we assist. We also have staff members who have donated their time in the annual Point in Time count, for which they have helped identify and account for sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons on a given night in January. This annual count is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for Continuums of Care.

The work we do, especially as it relates to public and affordable housing as well as health, demonstrates our commitment to understanding, reducing, and eliminating homelessness in the United States. On the occasion of the 2017 National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, we pause to pay respects to those lives lost, and we reaffirm our efforts to provide services that work toward preventing future such deaths.

Expressing Clinician Well-Being Through Art

Expressing Clinician Well-Being Through Art

Econometrica Will Participate in Community Art Project

According to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), clinician burnout can lead to serious consequences, including medical error and clinician suicide. Focusing on improving clinician well-being improves the quality of the care team. In order to promote conversation around clinician well-being, NAM is asking artists to express what clinician burnout, clinician well-being, and clinician resilience looks, sounds, and feels like.

Last year, NAM used art as a way to promote conversations around health equity. NAM successfully involved participants from diverse communities across the United States. Artwork from the Visualize Health Equity project can be viewed online.

Econometrica has experience with behavioral health issues and improving patient care through clinician well-being, including our efforts on Partnership for Patients for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Our employees will submit artwork to show what clinician well-being means to us. Stay tuned to see the artwork we create!

Econometrica raises thousands of dollars for the Central Texas Food Bank

With the holidays approaching, now is a great time to help our neighbors and friends in need.

As a reminder, Econometrica’s fundraising page to support the Central Texas Food Bank including those affected by Hurricane Harvey continues to accept donations. In fact, recent reports indicate there is still great need, including those who are lacking clean drinking water.

Econometrica, Inc., has long focused on projects that include disaster recovery, public health initiatives, public and affordable housing, and nutrition assistance/food security. We understand the basic, daily needs of people, especially following a disaster. In the past, Econometrica provided support services related to the implementation of the Katrina Disaster Housing Assistance Program and the follow-on Disaster Voucher Program—two programs that addressed the urgent housing needs of flood victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. And following extensive flooding and landslides in Colorado in September 2013, Econometrica was contracted to provide onsite subject matter expertise in a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Joint Field Office to inform State, regional, and local economic recovery planning.

Econometrica also has numerous clients (past and present) and business associates throughout Texas, including along the coast and in Houston. We have been deeply saddened to witness the devastation from Hurricane Harvey, so we have set up this fundraising page to support the Central Texas Food Bank, which will use these funds to purchase disaster relief boxes and quickly distribute them to the individuals and families who need them most. The boxes are filled with necessary goods that are easy for those impacted by the storm to use.

Currently, Econometrica has raised more than $2,500, but we think we can do better! The more funds that are raised, the greater the impact will be, so please spread the word by sharing this page with your friends, colleagues, and family.

In this season of giving, we encourage you to consider a tax-deductible donation. In fact, donations made right now will be matched dollar for dollar; that’s twice the impact! Let’s come together to help those in need.

Thank you for your generosity!
